Celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month

Celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month

Our national rhetoric on immigration has grown increasingly divisive over the last year, which is why it is so important we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month this June. Los Angeles would not be the city it is today without our immigrant communities, and this month we recognize the individuals who have made immeasurable contributions to L.A. Two of these individuals are brothers Berhanu and Getahun Asfaw. They own Council District 10’s beloved Ethiopian restaurant Messob and are standout members of the Los Angeles community. Last week I welcomed Berhanu and Getahun to City Hall and honored their achievements as part of our Immigrant Heritage Month celebrations.
