09 Jun Statement: L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson Responds to LAPD Police Commission Decision re: Ezell Ford
In August 2014, Ezell Ford, was a party to an officer-involved shooting. To determine whether officers acted appropriately and in accordance with Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) protocols, a 10-month long investigation was conducted by LAPD and the Police Commission’s (commission) independent inspector general. Upon conclusion of the review, the investigation’s findings were presented to the commission today.
“While the Police Commission has made its decision, we cannot be afraid to have uncomfortable conversations about race relations in our city with our friends and neighbors, elected officials and those who work hard to keep our streets safe. The issue before us today is not one Los Angeles is uniquely facing, but part of a national dialogue. My thoughts are with the Ford family, especially Ms. Ford, as we continue to mourn the loss of her son.”
