Movies in the Park

Each summer City Council President Wesson hosts several screenings in the 10th district of various family-friendly flicks, treating community members for a night out under the stars. The “Movies in the Park” series provides a fun and safe environment for all ages. In addition to the movie screenings, Wesson also provides all attendees with a meal, drink, popcorn and candy. Sweetening the deal is the added bonus of Wesson’s always exciting raffle drawing. Bicycles, skateboards, headphones and occasionally a big-screen television are often included as prizes.

Each year City Council President Wesson, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks treats approximately 150 children from disadvantaged communities to a camping trip at Hansen Dam. The annual camping trip seeks to teach and expose young members of the surrounding community wilderness skills and expose them to new outdoor activities not readily experienced in the city’s urban neighborhoods.

Wesson’s Winter Wonderland

Once a year, City Council President Wesson partners with community sponsors and volunteers to host a fun day of winter games for children of the 10th Council District. Wesson’s Winter Wonderland includes a tobogganing course made from real snow, holiday themed arts and crafts, lunch and if the children have been good a surprise appearance from St. Nick himself.

L.A. City Employee Appreciation Lunch

City Council President Herb Wesson hosts an annual ‘thank you’ luncheon recognizing L.A. City employees for their great dedication to the City of Angels. The appreciation luncheon is regularly attended by nearly 500 employees stopping by the event throughout the day. The luncheon is hosted at the Council President’s district office and guests traditionally feast on ribs, tacos, hamburgers, and specialty ethnic foods prepared by restaurants throughout Council District 10.

Wesson Wheels

In 2017, Team Wesson made history by giving away 1,000 bikes, helmets and locks to 1,000 students from South Los Angeles. Wesson Wheels aims to spread cheer while reminding youth of the importance of physical activity. Involving local schools, neighborhood councils and community partners, Wesson Wheels formed a coalition dedicated to a single goal: giving back to Los Angeles.
