12 Aug Statement on White Supremacist Activity and “Unite the Right” Rally in Charlottesville
I am profoundly saddened by news of this weekend’s “Unite the Right” rally and white supremacist activity in Virginia.
In the fight against hatred, complacency is our greatest enemy. With every step forward our country takes, there will be those that resist and protest. We must stand strong in our commitment to a more equitable world and to be restless in our pursuit to eradicate racism, bigotry and division. In America, we judge people not on the color of their skin, but on the decency of their actions. It is time for all Americans to realize that it is no longer enough to not be racist, we must be actively anti-racist. My colleagues and I on the City Council will continue working tirelessly to ensure Los Angeles remains a haven of diversity that warmly embraces people of all backgrounds.
